Ty Locke's practice is constantly changing in response to his emotional and social circumstances.  Locke experiments with everyday objects, changes them, and creates defamiliarization, mostly in a light-hearted, playful manner, while exploring a deeper social commentary.

"My sculptures have always explored tedious labour, endurance, repetition, working class-ness and absurdity, sometimes becoming voluntary torture or punishment.  I set myself mundane rules to follow, committing to this irrationality to create dysfunctional objects.  I use what’s to hand to create and impose processes onto familiar reference points.  Since I left my job as a store assistant at Aldi, my focus has been on domestic spaces, things that exist domestically, the mundaneness of it all, and my relationship to home, currently and throughout my life." Locke

Ty Locke is currently preparing for an exhibition for the Quench Gallery in Margate at the beginning of August 2022. It is a group show exploring relationships to domestic spaces as a queer child.  Each room in the gallery represents a different room in the house; Locke has been given the kitchen.
