Alan Magee
Alan Magee created Immaterial machine flesh specifically for the MOCA Web Exhibition series. However, whilst being a stand-alone body of work, it was made in conjunction with another body of work, Data Dust, Dust Data, currently on show at Castor in London.
Both shows, (one virtual, one real) evolve from a broader exploration around the social and cultural role of technology and the value of labour. Magee notes, that as technological advancements in AI and Automation increasingly become the dominant mediators of human experiences and practices, our direct engagement with materiality inversely decreases. As such, a focal point of this exhibition is the exploration between the virtual and the material; the haptic and the optic. Alan Magee was born in Ireland and lives and works between Dublin & London. He holds an MA in Fine Art from Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design, London, and a BA from TU Dublin (DIT). Awards include; Fire Station Artists’ Studios -Sculpture Bursary Award, Florence Trust Studio Residency; Arts Council Ireland and Culture Ireland Awards. He has notably exhibited at White Cube, London; Castor, London; Xi’an Academy, China and LCGA, Limerick. Magee is currently a lecturer at Wimbledon and Central Saint Martin’s Colleges of Art and Design, and is represented by Castor London. www.alan-magee.com Alan Magee Data Dust, Dust Data 3 May - 8 June www.castorprojects.co.uk/data-dust-dust-data |
