Reluctant Voyeurs 1-31 October 2021 “He makes reluctant voyeurs of us All” Professor Stuart Hall, 2013 “Pleasure is so close to ruinous waste that we refer to the moment of climax as little death”- Georges Bataille -Eroticism: Death and Sensuality , 1962 A series of intense black and white photographic portraits of black men and woman on the verge, during or after ejaculation/orgasm. This new work seeks to unravel and capture the moment when the sitter loses control of their body, in other words the moment when identity is shattered, and the body inhabits an elsewhere space. Bio Ajamu is a darkroom/fine art photographer, archive curator and radical sex activist known for his conceptual homo-erotic imagery, self-portraits and studio based constructed imagery. His work has been exhibited in various prestigious museums, galleries and alternative spaces around the world.
