Jon Lockhart and Tom Cox-Bisham, Jon Thomas: Together in Electric Dreams, 2002 British artists John Lockhart and Tom Cox-Bisham made an immersive installation that harkened back to 1980’s videos. For Together in Electric Dreams they covered the space with pink and white vinyl, and blue grids over white. The work referenced the movie Tron (1981) and its then new computer aesthetic. Semitransparent plastic sheeting also covering walls that hid banks of old audio machines whose lights flickered on and off every now and then. The installation had a claustrophobic sound track that was monitored by in room microphones that fed back data. The work offered a sensory overload so that visitors felt as if they were inside a computer game. In order to leave they had to go through an escape hatch which was filled with the smell of cherries.
