Ron Haselden, Maid of The Mist, 1994 British artist Ron Haselden has long explored the carnivalesque in his work and is known for using outdoor lights to create magical spaces for visitors to engage with. For Maid of the Mist he bisected the gallery on a 45 degree angle using a white projection scrim. Using an old fashioned (even mid 1990s) theatrical projection machine he created a sort of Victorian diorama of light and sound. From the front the work looked like a wall of flames or a cloudy sky depending on the image. Visitors could also walk underneath it and be consumed by the magic. His soundscape enhanced the feeling of being totally immersed in the work.
