Renato Niemis, [;], 1994 British artist Renato Niemis created a maximal minimalist cross on the gallery floor. The large wooden cruciform shape became a default catwalk. Visitors if they chose to enter the room, became those on view to others in the room and in a way themselves. They were the presentation and the figurative representation in the room. They could walk back and forth as much or as little as they liked and many stepped off the form as soon as possible, but lingered to watch other, more extrovert visitors who found the catwalk a pleasure. Niemis turned his gaze onto the viewer as much as they did on his work.
