Love Me Not When I Look - Alana Lake
25 February 2011

For Alana Lake's video installation at MOCA London she used Russell Grant's astrological predictions for Scorpio and Gemini.  The year forecasts for each star sign were juxtaposed and played alongside each other on the same screen. The voices clashed and Grant's face occasionally distorted adding an intensity and eeriness to the otherwise knowingly camp video.

Lake's video - Love Me Not When I Look - explores her experiences of obsession and desire. The artist used to collect the star signs of a female artist whom she was attracted to, and who she met only a few times. She used astrological predictions as a means of looking for signs that they would meet again, that their worlds would collide and that love might flourish.
This was the first MOCA Project for the LGBT History month that ran the whole of February, and was also MOCA's first project for the South London Art Map Last Fridays.
