Loriot/Mélia - Readymade in China

Loriot/Mélia Francois Loriot (Died 2014) and Chantal Mélia
Ready Made China, 2000

The French duo Francois Loriot and Chantal Mélia worked together from 1992 until Loriot died in 2014. Their work often focused on light and the odd shadows cast by objects placed in the exhibition space. Ready Made in China featured a spinning mountain range diorama. They made this shadow ‘landscape’ by lighting a bicycle wheel studded with glass shards. Nearby another shadow, of an old airplane could be seen setting up a tense air of cinematic expectation. Would these images eventually collide or would those on the plane make it to their landing site?
