Kate Smith says that “Saturday, for many people, is a time to sort out the shopping and clear up for the coming week. All the practicalities need to be done so that you can chill out on Sunday, ready to start the week again. While you’re out you buy your lottery ticket and start to dream about what you’d do if you won. From that point up until the draw your mind is caught up in a fantasy that becomes more and more elaborate the longer you’ve bought them. For most of us this is centred on the place we’d buy and we have a detailed picture of its surroundings and interior. On that afternoon, every week a legion of people are all connected up in a moment of mounting excitement, re-planning the entire country to suit our dreams.”
The video work she has be showing at MOCA is based in this experience and includes one man’s plans for achieving his ideal environment.
