John Coleman projected a variety of human figures onto the gallery walls in his installation Lapwing Redwing Fieldfare. He called these larger than life sized silhouettes 'arcane travellers’. Coleman made the projections by first blacking out the rustic figurative shapes on small mirrors. He then attached them to the floor, and projected a very strong light onto the mirror which threw up the space around the figures onto the walls. The travellers had already gone, they were in every way not there. Even their actual shadows were not there, however the shadows of the visitors did fall onto the walls and interact with the negative space of those more arcane.
