MOCA's first project was an exhibition in book form entitled Abstract Eroticism published by Academy Editions which looked at the notion of the erotic as opposed to erotic object choice. It included special projects made for the exhibition and included works by Kiki Smith, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Helen Chadwick, Janine Antoni, and Ross Bleckner, Charkes Ray, Millie Wilson, Tracey Emin, Robert Gober, and Gary Hill.
